Washington Center Internships
The Washington Center has provided Washington semester experiences since the 1960s. Their core activity is a semester-long internship, college class, and professional development program The Washington Center | D.C. Based Internships and Seminars (twc.edu). TWC places students in prestigious Washington internships, ranging from government agencies (such as the Department of Justice), international organizations and non-governmental organizations (foreign embassies and trade associations), to history (the Smithsonian Institution), to national and cybersecurity (Department of Homeland Security), law and lobbying firms, media and public relations organizations, and the DC business community Internships - Academic Internship Program Guide (twc.edu). Seventy percent of TWC internships include some financial compensation such as a stipend or transportation support. Students can receive up to 15 hours of academic credit (fall/spring semester) or 12 hours in summer semester from UNC Charlotte for completion of a TWC semester. TWC has housing available in DC. These experiences have opened the horizons of many UNC Charlotte students.
In partnership with TWC, the state of North Carolina is now providing scholarships for college students from North Carolina to participate in TWC’s internships and academic program ($9-11,000). State Scholarships | The Washington Center (twc.edu) TWC also has a new Samuel G. Rose scholarship, available for Pell-grant eligible students Private Scholarships | The Washington Center (twc.edu).
