Meet the Panelists:

Shelly Fincannon

I am a “retired” high school math and science teacher. After working with teenagers for twenty years I decided to go back to school to pursue an associate's degree in clinical research at Durham Tech. I currently work for Duke University School of Medicine in the Cardiothoracic Surgery department as a Clinical Research Coordinator.

Jazmin Barnes

I am a Clinical Research Associate II (CRA) within the clinical research industry. I graduated with my bachelor's in psychology from the illustrious North Carolina A&T in December of 2018. Upon graduation, I had huge dreams to attend medical school & become a psychiatrist. However, after a few months of attending a post-bac program, I realized that was no longer my dream. After a 'failed' dream, I then began to network and look for other opportunities that would allow me to be impactful in the lives of others. Ironically I stumbled across clinical research and it's been stuck since.

Nitika

I am a Clinical Scientist at Fosun Pharma, where I specialize in overseeing, monitoring, authoring, and reviewing clinical trials and trial-related data & documents for early-phase global clinical trials in oncology (solid tumors and hematology) and rare diseases. My interest in drug development and clinical research began in grade school, and I pursued my B.S. and M.S. in biology at the University of Delhi, India. Afterward, I worked as a research associate in a Cancer and Epigenetics research lab.

Intrigued by cancer research, I pursued my Ph.D. at UNCC, where I learned about the mechanistic basis of cancer and conducted pre-clinical testing of novel drug combinations. During graduate school, I interned at my current company in clinical research, which opened an entirely new career path for me. After graduation, I was offered a full-time position and have been working at Fosun Pharma for the past 2 years. I am passionate about clinical research and how it improves the lives of patients in real-time.
