Information Sessions for Internship Scholarships with The Washington Center

The Washington Center (TWC) is UNC Charlotte’s partner for internships and academic programming in Washington, D.C. The Washington Center | D.C. Based Internships and Seminars (twc.edu) places students in prestigious Washington internships, ranging from government agencies (such as the Department of Justice), international organizations and non-governmental organizations (foreign embassies and trade associations), to history (the Smithsonian Institution), to national and cybersecurity (Department of Homeland Security), law and lobbying firms, media and public relations organizations, and the DC business community Internships - Academic Internship Program Guide (twc.edu). These experiences have opened the horizons of many UNC Charlotte students.

In partnership with TWC, the state of North Carolina is now providing scholarships for college students from North Carolina to participate in TWC’s internships and academic program ($6-8,000). TWC also has a new Samuel G. Rose scholarship, available for Pell-grant eligible students. These scholarships are a major opportunity to make a Washington semester experience more affordable for UNC Charlotte students.

On-campus information session. A representative of The Washington Center will be on campus for an informational session on the scholarships and TWC’s programs on Wednesday, Feb. 9, from 2-3 p.m., in the Career Center’s classroom.

Virtual information Session. We will also have a virtual informational session on Tuesday, Feb.15 from 2-3 p.m. Please register for the virtual session at the following link: .

If you cannot attend either session and would like more information, consult The Washington Center | D.C. Based Internships and Seminars (twc.edu) or contact Prof. Eric Heberlig of the Department of Political Science & Public Administration, the university’s campus liaison to The Washington Center (esheberl@uncc.edu).

TWC’s program includes three parts: the internship, an academic class, and career professionalization activities. Students can receive up to 15 hours of academic credit (fall/spring semester) or 12 hours in summer semester from UNC Charlotte for completion of a TWC semester.

For summer and spring semester, TWC’s internship sites will have a mix of virtual, hybrid, an in-person opportunities. TWC does have housing available in DC.

The application deadlines for summer semester are Feb. 16 (early deadline for some internships) and March 16 (the regular deadline). The application deadlines for fall semester are April 6 (early) and May 4 (regular)

Join us for these discussions of their opportunities as well as funding sources to help UNC Charlotte students afford their programs.
